Yelp Bookmarks: How to Move Them Into Google Maps

A useful Yelp bookmarks export starts with a smaller list and a manual transfer. There is no verified one-click Yelp-to-Google-Maps transfer to recommend here. The practical route is to choose the places you still want to visit, find their matching Google Maps listings, and carry over the reason you saved each one. You can do that without turning an evening into an attempt to preserve your entire browsing history.

Before your Yelp bookmarks export, decide what deserves the trip

Open the bookmarks area you already use in Yelp and review it as a set of possibilities, not an obligation. Yelp's interface could not be verified for this guide, so there are no promised button names or export commands here. Work from the saved places you can currently access.

Ask one question of each entry: would I go here in the next year? A restaurant near your current office may qualify. A lunch spot beside an apartment you left long ago probably needs a concrete reason to come along.

Create a temporary working document with the business name, neighborhood or address, and your reason for visiting. An address matters when businesses share names or have several locations. Keep uncertain entries separate so they do not interrupt the straightforward transfers.

Do not spend the first evening researching every old bookmark. The immediate job is to make your next outing easier. Anything that requires detective work can wait until the useful list exists.

Move Yelp bookmarks into a Google Maps list

These desktop steps follow Google's Create a list of places help page. Keep your working document beside Maps so you can check location details as you go.

For a trip, group by destination before making separate lists for every meal or mood. Excessive subdivisions can recreate the problem you are trying to leave behind: remembering which container holds the place. Keep the structure simple enough to use while standing outside and deciding where to walk.

Use More to hide or show a list on your map. This helps keep an old trip from competing visually with places relevant today, without requiring you to delete the list.

Carry over the reason, not just the restaurant name

A manual transfer recreates your selection of places. It does not transfer Yelp reviews, photos, or the context in which you encountered them. The Google Maps listing is its own listing, not a copy of everything you previously saw.

The detail most likely to matter later is smaller than a review: “breakfast on a weekday,” “ask about the window table,” or “the dish my friend ordered.” A pin does not automatically carry that intention with it.

Write a single sentence beside each place in your companion document. Make it specific enough to distinguish that restaurant from the other appealing options in the same neighborhood. “Looks good” is weak. “Quiet lunch near the station before the train” gives you a usable decision.

Keep personal preferences separate from facts that need checking. “I wanted a window seat” remains useful context. Whether a particular table can be reserved is something to confirm with the venue when you actually plan to visit.

Share the map deliberately

On desktop, Google's documented sharing route is Menu, then Saved. Click More beside the list and choose to send a link for viewing or invite others to edit. Starred places cannot be shared, so use an ordinary list for a collection you intend to send.

A list can be Private, meaning only you can access it, or Shared, meaning anyone with the link can view it. Treat a shared link accordingly. Keep private comments about companions, personal routines, or sensitive plans out of material you distribute.

When an old bookmark points to a closed place

Do not replace a missing listing with the nearest similar name just to finish the transfer. Search using the address as well as the name. If the identity remains unclear, leave it in your unresolved notes.

For a place that appears closed, retain the reason only if it still helps: perhaps you wanted a particular kind of meal or a convenient stop along a route. Mark the original as unavailable and research an alternative separately. A successor at the same address should not silently inherit the old recommendation.

Finish by opening your destination list and checking addresses against your working document. Keep the original bookmarks until you are comfortable using the new collection. Completing the transfer means you can choose somewhere to go, not that every historical save has moved.
