Find what you mean — from everything you’ve saved

dEssence understands what you save, so you can just ask in your own words — and get exactly what you meant. Even when you don’t remember the title, the source, or the words you used.

Step 1 — find dEssence in your browser

Pin the icon so it’s always one click away

Click the puzzle piece in the top-right of Chrome, find dEssence, and hit the pin. Once it’s on your toolbar, opening the side panel is a single click.

  1. 1Click the puzzle-piece icon
  2. 2Find dEssence in the list
  3. 3Tap the pin icon next to it

The notebook of small good things

Most of the people I admire have one thing in common: they keep a private notebook of things they liked. Not folders. Not tags. Just a place where good ideas land before they get forgotten.

They save the apartment with the big windows, the recipe a friend mentioned in passing, the slide with the growth chart, the YouTube video about morning routines. Whatever felt useful in the moment.

The notebook of small good things — a saving sandbox

Try this:select this whole sentence with your cursor, then right-click and pick “Save to Pinboard” — it’ll land in your real pinboard with the URL of this page attached.

Right-click the picture above to save it as an image.

Then, weeks later, they ask a vague question — “that thing about Lisbon” — and somehow find it. That second moment is the whole magic.

You can also drag any of the blocks above directly into the dEssence side panel — same outcome, no menu needed.

  • Right-click somewhere in the article above
  • Pick Save to Pinboard from the real Chrome menu
  • Open the side panel — your save is waiting there

The whole loop, in three moves

Save anything. dEssence makes sense of it. You ask later, in plain language.

Save anything that feels useful

A link, a place, a video, a screenshot, a random idea — drop it into dEssence and move on. No folders. No tags. No second guessing.

Your saves become meaningful

dEssence reads what’s inside — places, topics, dates, faces, the gist of an article — so it’s more than a file in a folder.

Find it like you think

Ask in your own words — even vaguely. “That recipe Sam sent me”. “The apartment with the big windows”. dEssence finds what you meant.

Four ways to save from any page

dEssence works on every Chrome page — articles, social posts, docs, listings. Pick the gesture that feels easiest in the moment.

One-click side panel

Pin the dEssence icon in your toolbar. One click slides the side panel open on any page — your pinboard, chat, and traits live there.

Toolbar → Pin → Click

Right-click anything on the page

Selected text, an image, a link — open the context menu and pick “Save to Pinboard”. dEssence captures it with the source URL and surrounding context.

Right-click → Save to Pinboard

Drag content into the side panel

Grab a paragraph, an image, or a link with your cursor and drop it on the side panel. dEssence picks the right format automatically.

Drag → Drop into side panel

Snip a region of any page

Use the “Save Region to Pinboard” menu to draw a rectangle around exactly the part that matters — a price table, a chart, a single paragraph. We OCR and link it.

Right-click → Save Region

Ask the way you actually think

Like Shazam for your memory — you don’t need exact words, just a hint. Try one of these on something you’ve saved:

that YouTube about morning routines
the apartment with the big windows
restaurant in Lisbon my friend recommended
the slide with the growth chart
recipes I saved for the weekend
things I wanted to buy later
About the install permissions

We saw “read & change all data” and got nervous too

Chrome shows the broadest possible warning. Here’s what dEssence actually uses those permissions for — and what it never does.

What we use

  • Read & change data on websitesOnly when you explicitly save — to grab the link, the image you picked, or the text you selected. Nothing is read in the background.
  • Context menuSo “Save to Pinboard” appears when you right-click. The menu items only run on click.
  • Side panelTo open the dEssence panel next to the page when you click the toolbar icon.

What we never do

  • Read passwords or form fields
  • Track what you visit
  • Run in the background on pages you don’t save from
  • Send your browsing history anywhere

Saves are scoped to the moment you trigger them — right-click, drag, or panel. We’re open-source on the extension code so you can audit it.

Capture from outside Chrome too

Anything that lands in dEssence — from anywhere — becomes searchable the same way.

Start saving in one click.

Add the dEssence extension to Chrome and turn anything you find on the web into something you can ask about later.
