Black Friday Ads 2026: What to Do With the Ad Scan Before the Sale Starts

Black Friday ads for 2026 usually start appearing in late October and through November; last year Costco's ad surfaced on October 25 and Walmart announced its events on October 27. When one drops, save each item and watch its price.

Black Friday Ads 2026: What to Do With the Ad Scan Before the Sale Starts

Black Friday ads 2026 will start showing up weeks before Friday, November 27. Going by last year, the first big ones land in late October: Costco's 2025 ad scan surfaced on October 25, Walmart announced its 2025 Black Friday events on October 27, and Target announced its main sale on November 20. When we checked in mid-October 2026, the big stores had not published this year's ads yet. When they do, the ad is a long list of prices for days you are not shopping yet. Here is what to do with it so the few items you want are ready when the sale starts.

When Black Friday ads come out

There is no fixed release day. Each store publishes its own ad, or announces its sale dates, on its own schedule. Last year gives a good idea of the rhythm:

Store2025: ad or announcement2025: sale dates
Costco32-page ad surfaced Oct 25Oct 31 to Nov 16, Nov 17 to Dec 1; Black Friday Nov 28 to Dec 1
WalmartEvents announced Oct 27Event 1 Nov 14 to 16; Event 2 Nov 25 to 30
TargetSale announced Nov 20Nov 23 to 29

In 2026, Black Friday is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday is November 30. If stores follow last year's pattern, expect the first ads around the end of October and the rest through mid-November. Our Black Friday 2026 guide tracks the dates stores have announced so far.

Ad scans, leaks and why prices can change

Some ads appear first as "ad scans": photos or PDFs posted by deal sites before the store announces anything. They are useful for planning, with two caveats.

  • An early scan is not the final ad. Items, prices and dates can change before the sale. Treat a leaked price as a hint, then check it on the store's own site when the sale goes live.
  • A Black Friday price is not always the lowest price. Some items drop in early events, like Walmart's mid-November event last year, and some drop again on Cyber Monday. That is why it pays to watch the item itself, not only the ad.

How to read the fine print

Most of what decides whether a deal works for you is in small type around the price:

  • The dates. Many ads cover several events. Last year Costco's ad ran in several stretches from October 31 to December 1, and Walmart split its sale into two events plus Cyber Monday. Note which window your item is in.
  • "Starting at" and "select styles". The big number is often the lowest price for the cheapest version. Check that the size, color or storage you want is the one on sale.
  • Members and early hours. Some deals open first for paid members. Walmart+ members got five hours of early online access to each 2025 event.
  • While supplies last. Doorbusters can sell out in minutes. If an item matters, have the product page open and the price you are willing to pay written down before the sale starts.

What to do with the ad, in 15 minutes

The ad is built to make you want more. The goal is the opposite: a short list of things you were going to buy anyway, each with a price you would be happy to pay.

Why save the product page, not the ad

An ad shows one price on one day. The product page is where the price actually moves. If you save the product page link for each item as soon as the ad appears, you can see what it costs today, notice if it drops early, and check in seconds on the day whether the ad price is real.

A few things to watch for while you do it:

  • Model numbers. A TV or laptop in an ad can carry a slightly different model number from the one you read reviews for. Write down the exact model and match it on the product page.
  • Store versus online. Some deals are in store only, some online only, and some start online the day before. Last year Walmart's second event ran online only from November 25 to 27 before opening in stores on November 28.
  • Price matching after you buy. Some stores refund the difference if their own price drops within a short window. Our Black Friday 2026 guide has Target's 14-day rule, and how to track prices before and during Black Friday covers the tools.

Let Tracy watch the short list

Once you have the product pages, Tracy, the assistant in dEssence, can take it from there. Send her the link to each item from Chrome, Telegram, iMessage or the web, and turn on a watch for it. She checks the price and the stock, and messages you when the price drops or when the item comes back in stock. On the free plan she checks once a day; on Pro, every hour.

You keep the ad price yourself. When Tracy tells you a price dropped, you look at your note and decide whether it is the deal you were waiting for. Ask her "what dropped this week?" and she lists the items from your short list with the change.

She does not read the ad scan or pick deals out of it, and she does not search for coupons or buy anything. You choose the items; she watches them so you do not have to keep checking.

Frequently asked questions

When do Black Friday 2026 ads come out?

Most likely from late October through mid-November. In 2025, Costco's ad scan surfaced on October 25, Walmart announced its events on October 27 and Target announced its sale on November 20. When we checked in mid-October 2026, the big stores had not published 2026 ads yet.

What date is Black Friday 2026?

Friday, November 27, 2026, the day after Thanksgiving on November 26. Cyber Monday is November 30.

Are leaked Black Friday ads accurate?

Often close, not always exact. An early scan can be a draft, and items or prices can change before the sale. Check the price on the store's own site when the deals go live.

Is the Black Friday ad price the lowest price of the year?

Not always. Some items drop earlier, in pre-Black Friday events, and some drop again on Cyber Monday. Watching the item's own page shows you when it actually moves.
