Where Do Twitch Clips Save, and How Long Do You Have

Twitch clips save on Twitch, not automatically in your phone’s camera roll or your computer’s Downloads folder. If you are asking where do Twitch clips save after clipping someone else’s stream, start in your own Clips Manager. The channel’s public clips page is another place to look, but it is not the same list.

First separate two problems: finding the clip you published and rescuing a longer moment from the original broadcast. They have different controls and different deadlines.

Where do Twitch clips save when you clip another channel?

Use Twitch in a desktop browser for the clearest recovery route. Sign in to the account you were using when you clipped the stream, open your profile menu, and choose Creator Dashboard. You do not need to have streamed yourself to look for clips you created.

The common mistake is opening Clips of My Channel when you meant Clips I've Created. The first answers “what did people clip from my stream?” The second answers “what did I clip while watching?” A creator who also watches other channels may need both.

On the broadcaster’s channel, open Videos and choose Clips from the video filter. Adjust the date range rather than relying on the clips initially shown. Public discovery and your management list can present different selections, so absence from the channel view is not enough to conclude that your clip disappeared.

How long do Twitch clips stay available?

A clip is a short, separately published moment. A Past Broadcast is the recording of the stream. A Highlight is a selected portion the broadcaster preserves from available video. Do not apply the Past Broadcast retention table to all three.

Twitch’s On-Demand Content on Twitch lists Past Broadcast storage as 60 days for Partners, Prime, and Turbo users; 14 days for Affiliates; and 7 days for everyone else. Highlights and Uploads are stored indefinitely within a combined 100-hour storage limit.

For your own future streams, open Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream → VOD Settings and enable Store past broadcasts before broadcasting. Turning it on afterward does not recreate a recording that was never stored. Check the Video Producer for the actual recording before planning an edit.

If you need the explanation before or after a clip, find that section in the available broadcast now. A surviving clip does not mean the rest of the stream will remain accessible.

Download or edit the clip while you have access

Twitch’s How to Create, Edit, and Share Clips describes landscape and portrait downloads in Clips Manager. Twitch generates a portrait version alongside the landscape clip during creation. Use the offered download control for clips of your channel or clips you created, then confirm that the downloaded file opens.

If a portrait download is missing, open the clip editor, adjust the portrait layout, and save it where your permissions allow. A download is a separate action from creating the clip; check your browser’s download destination afterward.

The scissors control opens editing. Channel owners can change a clip’s title, trim, and portrait layout for clips of their channel. A viewer can edit clips they created on another channel until the owner edits, features, or exports that clip. Downloading does not grant permission to republish someone else’s work.

Channel owners can delete clips of their channel. Creators can delete their clips of other channels while that permission remains available; owner edits, featuring, or export can change it. Treat a missing control as a possible permissions issue before assuming the interface is broken.

Save Twitch clips with words you can use later

“Insane ending” tells you almost nothing a month later. “The streamer explains why the microphone crackles when the controller charges” gives you a subject, a symptom, and a reason to return. Keep that sentence beside the clip URL rather than trusting the title to carry everything.

For a work reference, also note which part you need: the demonstration, a quotation to verify, or the settings shown on screen. If you download a permitted copy, give the file a meaningful name and record where you put it. Saving a URL and saving a video file solve different retrieval problems.

You can manually save the clip link through the dEssence Chrome extension, Telegram bot, or web app, add your own words, and later ask for it in those words. It does not connect to your Twitch account or export your clips, and it cannot keep Twitch’s original available. Use it for the reference and its context; handle any video download separately.

Before closing the tab, open your saved link once. A working clip, an accurate note, and any permitted local copy are more useful than a folder full of unexplained titles.
