Telegram vs WhatsApp Reminder Bots: Which One Should Hold Your Reminders
Telegram vs WhatsApp reminder bots: Telegram bots are free to run, so free reminder bots are common there. On WhatsApp, a bot that reminds you later must use paid templates, so most reminder assistants charge.

Telegram vs WhatsApp reminder bots differ because the two platforms treat bots differently. Telegram bots are free for users and developers, and Telegram has reminders built in, so free reminder bots are easy to find. On WhatsApp, a bot that messages you later must use approved, paid templates, so most WhatsApp reminder assistants charge.
Search for a reminder bot and you get two separate worlds: lists of Telegram bots and lists of WhatsApp reminder apps. Nobody puts them side by side, which is odd, because the platform you choose decides most of what you get: whether it is free, how the bot can reach you, and what happens when you go quiet for a day.
Why are Telegram reminder bots usually free?
Because the platform is free to build on. Telegram's own bot documentation says the bot platform hosts more than 10 million bots and is free for both users and developers. A developer can run a reminder bot without paying Telegram per message, so many reminder bots are free or donation-supported.
Telegram also has reminders built in. Hold the Send button in any chat and pick Schedule Message. In your Saved Messages chat, a scheduled message becomes a reminder to yourself, with its own notification. For a one-off "call the dentist on Tuesday," you may not need a bot at all.
Examples of Telegram reminder bots:
- Skeddy. A reminder bot that turns plain sentences into reminders, with recurring schedules and snooze in a Mini App. Its site says it has run since 2016 and is free, with no premium tier.
- Zuno. An AI reminder assistant that takes text, voice notes and photos. Its site presents it as a Telegram assistant (some of the page still mentions WhatsApp) and its FAQ says it is free for early adopters.
Why do WhatsApp reminder bots usually cost money?
Because WhatsApp charges businesses for messages that arrive outside a conversation. A reminder bot on WhatsApp runs on the WhatsApp Business Platform. Its business messaging policy says that outside the 24-hour customer service window, a business may only send approved message templates, and those messages are priced under Meta's pricing policy.
In practice: you tell the bot on Monday to remind you on Friday. By Friday the 24-hour window from your last message has closed, so the reminder has to go out as a template message, and the service pays Meta for it. That is one reason WhatsApp reminder assistants are usually paid, or cap how many reminders you get.
Examples of WhatsApp reminder assistants, prices from their own pages on October 6, 2026:
- Remindio. Saves notes and sends reminders inside WhatsApp. Spark is $5 a month for 100 reminders a month and 500 memories; Flow is $10 a month with unlimited reminders and Telegram as well; both start with a 7-day free trial.
- Memorae. A reminder, list and notes assistant built around WhatsApp, with calendar sync; it also works in Telegram. Paid plans after a 7-day free trial; the price depends on your region.
- Poke. A general AI assistant you text in Messages, WhatsApp or Telegram, with a free plan and Pro at $19 a month.
WhatsApp itself has a narrower built-in option: since January 2026, when you create an event in a group chat you can set early reminders for the people invited. That works well for a party or a call, not for "renew the passport in March."

How do I choose between a Telegram and a WhatsApp reminder bot?
Pick the app you open without thinking. A reminder only works if you see it, and a free bot in an app you check twice a week is worth less than a paid one in the app you check fifty times a day.
Then ask three questions:
- Who else needs the reminder? If it is a group (school pickups, a family trip), WhatsApp is probably where those people are. Memorae can send reminders to people who do not use it.
- Is it a time or a condition? "Remind me at 8 am Friday" is a time; any bot can do it. "Tell me when the price drops" or "remind me before the return window closes" is a condition, and needs an assistant that keeps checking.
- How many reminders a month? At five a month, a free option is fine. At a hundred, check the caps: Remindio's $5 Spark plan stops at 100 reminders a month.
Which is better for family and group reminders?
Both can remind a group, in different ways. On Telegram, you can add a bot to a group chat; Telegram's documentation says bots join groups when someone adds them, and by default see only the messages meant for them. Skeddy, for example, can be added to a family or team chat so one reminder reaches everyone. A Telegram bot cannot start a conversation on its own: someone has to message it or add it to a group first.
On WhatsApp, the built-in event reminders cover group plans: create the event in the group and set an early reminder for everyone invited. For reminders to one person, Memorae can message someone who does not use it.
If your family is split, with some on Telegram and everyone on WhatsApp, keep the shared plans as WhatsApp events and your own reminders wherever they are cheapest to run.
Can a bot remind me about things in my WhatsApp chats?
Not by reading them. A reminder bot only sees the messages you send to it, on either platform. If the school sends the trip details in a WhatsApp group, you forward that message to the bot or take a screenshot and send it. Nothing reads your group chats for you, and that is a good thing.
What about an assistant that does more than reminders?
A reminder bot fires at the time you set. An assistant can also keep track of a condition: a price you are waiting for, a return window, a date that came out of a document you sent.
That is the job Tracy does in dEssence, the product we build. She lives in Telegram, iMessage, the Chrome extension and the web, not in WhatsApp. If something arrives in WhatsApp, you send her a screenshot or the link from Telegram or iMessage, and she keeps the date or watches the price you asked about. Free covers 20 saves and 20 messages a day, with watches checked daily; Pro is $10 a month, with watches checked hourly.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free WhatsApp reminder bot?
Some offer a free start: Zuno, whose site mentions both Telegram and WhatsApp, says it is free for early adopters, and several paid ones give a 7-day trial. Because WhatsApp charges businesses for messages sent outside the 24-hour window, long-term free reminder bots are less common on WhatsApp than on Telegram.
Can I set a reminder in Telegram without a bot?
Yes. Hold the Send button, choose Schedule Message, and pick a time. In Saved Messages, this works as a reminder to yourself.
Are reminder bots private?
Each bot sees what you send it and nothing else in your account. Read the bot's privacy page before you send personal details, and do not send passwords to any bot.
