ClassDojo vs ParentSquare vs Seesaw vs Remind: Where Each One Keeps What

ClassDojo is the teacher's classroom channel, ParentSquare is the school or district channel for notices and forms, Seesaw holds your child's work, and Remind carries short reminders. Look in the app that matches the sender.

ClassDojo vs ParentSquare vs Seesaw vs Remind: Where Each One Keeps What

Finding the trip form should start with who sent it. ClassDojo usually holds classroom updates and teacher chats; Seesaw often holds your child’s work; ParentSquare commonly carries school notices; Remind often delivers short announcements and conversations. Your school decides how those roles overlap.

For parents searching “ClassDojo vs Seesaw vs ParentSquare,” the useful comparison is where to look this evening, not which platform deserves a subscription. Add Remind, and the same deadline can arrive through several routes. Keep the original for replies and submission, then save the important detail somewhere you can find independently.

ClassDojo vs Seesaw vs ParentSquare: where to look first

ClassDojo vs ParentSquare: what each one is for

ClassDojo mostly connects a teacher with the families in one class, though some schools also post school-wide news there. ParentSquare is built for a whole school or district to reach every family. That difference decides where a message lands.

ClassDojo describes itself as free classroom communication for K-12 teachers and families, with behavior tracking and student portfolios. Teachers share photos and updates in Stories, and messages are translated automatically into more than 190 languages.

ParentSquare is a family engagement platform for schools and districts: communications, school websites, attendance and payments. A district notice, an absence alert or a payment request usually comes from there, not from the class teacher.

Some schools use both. If the message is about your child's class, open ClassDojo first. If it is about the school, a closure or a payment, open ParentSquare first.

ClassDojo: separate the class feed from the conversation

A teacher can put a permission slip in Class Story while answering your question about it in Chats. School Story carries updates shared more widely. Check the child and class before scrolling: a familiar teacher name does not establish which sibling the message concerns.

Open the actual post to inspect photos, files and any accompanying instructions. In a conversation, work backward from the date you remember. A people search helps find a recipient; do not assume it searches every sentence or attachment. I could not verify one universal parent search covering stories, chat content and files.

Email reminders may point you back to an event or update. Treat them as pointers, and check the post for subsequent changes. At year end, ask the teacher what will remain visible when the class is archived or your child moves. Save the documents you need while you can open them; school record retention and parent access are different questions.

Seesaw: look in Journals for work and Messages for instructions

In your family account, open Journals, then select the student and class. That is the useful route for a reading recording, drawing or teacher-shared example of progress. Open the individual item before saving; a thumbnail may not capture its audio, video or caption.

For correspondence, open Messages. Use Filter to narrow by class and by Announcements or Conversations. Seesaw documents keyword search in Messages, but that does not establish that every word inside an attached PDF is searchable.

The family notification route is profile icon → Account Settings gear → Parent Notifications. Email choices include All and Once Per Day. The daily summary reports new posts or messages without showing message content, so an inbox search may not find the phrase inside the original.

Save meaningful work before summer. Seesaw’s guide explains that access to archived classes depends on the school’s subscription. For Seesaw Starter, families have 60 days after archiving to download the journal; subscription access depends on the student account remaining active. How do I view my child’s Journal.

ParentSquare: check the post before the notification

ParentSquare often handles school announcements, newsletters, event details and requests requiring a response. Start with the relevant school or class feed, then inspect the post itself for attachments and action buttons. Direct Messages is the separate place to check a personal exchange.

If your post feed shows a search field, try a distinctive term such as “aquarium.” Check the selected school or group if results look wrong. Search coverage can differ between views; a missing result does not establish that a document was never sent.

On the website, the documented notification path is your name → Manage Account → Notification Settings. In the app, use menu → Account → Notifications. Instant and Digest change when ordinary post notifications arrive. Urgent notices have separate handling. ParentSquare’s frequently asked parent questions describe these delivery choices.

Receiving a digest does not make your inbox a complete archive of attachments, replies or completed forms.

Which school tools connect to family communication apps?

The connections run through the school's student information system (SIS), not through curriculum apps. Schools link these platforms to the system that holds class lists, so families and classes appear without manual setup.

  • ParentSquare connects to student information systems such as PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Synergy and Skyward, and to ClassLink and Clever for sign-in and class lists, according to ParentSquare's integrations sheet.
  • Seesaw syncs with Clever or ClassLink, which lets a district create classes from SIS data and update them when students move, per Seesaw's help.

For a parent, this means the apps share class lists, not messages. A notice in ParentSquare does not appear in Seesaw, so check each app the school uses.

Remind: follow the class or the person

Remind is often where the short, time-sensitive message lands: bring trainers, rehearsal moved, pickup is earlier. Messages can arrive through the app, email or SMS according to your contact settings. If one channel goes quiet, check your account before assuming the teacher stopped posting.

On the web, open your name → Account settings → Notification Preferences. Review the enabled contact methods. Remind’s notification guide says installing the app enables push notifications and disables text and email messages to reduce duplicates.

For an old attachment, reopen the relevant announcement or conversation. If browsing is slow, Remind’s “How do I get my message history?” documents a conversation export: open its three-dot menu and choose Email message history. Search the resulting PDF for a distinctive phrase, then inspect attachments separately.

I could not verify a universal parent search across all Remind content. Export important conversations before leaving a class. Ask the school what access changes after removal; do not infer permanent access from a message still visible today.

ClassDojo vs Seesaw vs ParentSquare: make one place for important school information

You do not need copies of every classroom photo and greeting. Capture the things with consequences: something to sign, pay, bring, attend or keep as a record. A single School folder plus one action note is enough to start. Keep replies and submissions in the channel the school requests. For letters that arrive by email, turning school emails into a family calendar shows the five lines worth pulling out of each one, and how to ask Tracy for them later.

Before the school year changes

Ask each teacher when classes will be archived and whether parent access changes. Ask the office separately about ParentSquare notices and Remind class membership. There is no single end-of-year rule covering all four services, school configurations and account changes.

For Seesaw journal downloads, use a desktop browser: profile icon → gear → Account Settings → Download Journal Archives. Download the relevant journal, then open the archive and check a photo, a video and a caption. Availability depends on your school’s settings. Exporting a message transcript is a separate job from preserving the child’s work.

Keep only records you expect to need. A keepsake recording, a current support document and a payment confirmation have different purposes; naming them clearly is more useful than copying an entire year of notifications.

dEssence can be the place for the items you choose to save through its Chrome extension, Telegram bot or web app. It does not connect to school apps, email or calendars, and it does not read your inbox. On the Pro plan, a document you forward or save can become a date and a task. Save the form and ask dEssence to remind you before Friday; check the extracted deadline and set the reminder yourself. Saving and setting a watch are separate actions. You still submit the form through the school’s required channel.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ClassDojo and ParentSquare?

ClassDojo is mostly a classroom tool: one teacher, one class, its families, plus a School Story some schools use for whole-school news. ParentSquare is a school and district tool for notices, attendance, websites and payments. Some schools run both.

Do ClassDojo, Seesaw and ParentSquare share messages?

Not by default: each app keeps its own messages. They can share class lists through the school's student information system, but each app keeps its own posts and messages.

Which app should I check first for a permission slip?

Check the app the sender uses. A teacher's slip is usually in ClassDojo Class Story or Seesaw, and a school-wide form is usually in ParentSquare.
