Choose Anki when remembering is the problem
Anki works best when material can be reduced to focused prompts. One card might ask for a definition; another might show a formula and ask when it applies. The attempt to answer is the important part.
Test one idea per card. Asking for an entire lecture produces a card that is hard to review and hard to score honestly. Several small cards expose gaps more clearly.
Raw slide decks, papers, and pages of notes usually need to be understood before becoming useful cards. Putting every paragraph into Anki creates another pile to avoid. Treat it as the home for information you have decided must be remembered, not everything you encounter.

Notion has no review schedule of its own, so you build one. Make a Cards database with Question, Answer and a Next review date, then add a view filtered to dates on or before today, using Notion's view filters. After each review you pick the next date yourself. That is fine for a few dozen cards. For a language or a medical course with thousands of cards, Anki is the better tool.
How to move Notion flashcards into Anki
Use a CSV file. Neither Notion's help center nor Anki's manual describes a direct sync between the two, so the documented route is export and import.
- Keep your cards in a Notion database with the question in the first column and the answer in the second.
- Export it from the ••• menu. Notion saves a full page database as a CSV file, per Notion's export guide.
- In Anki, choose File > Import and pick the file. Anki accepts fields separated by commas, semicolons or tabs and guesses the separator, according to Anki's text import guide. Match the columns to the Front and Back fields.
When you edit cards in Notion later, export again and import the new file. By default Anki treats a card with the same first field as the same note and updates its other fields, so a corrected answer replaces the old one instead of creating a duplicate.
What neither tool fixes alone
Study material escapes into Downloads, cloud storage, browser bookmarks, recorded lectures, and camera-roll photographs. Notion centralizes it only when you move it consistently. Anki helps only after you process selected facts.
When finals approach, gathering the material may come before deciding what belongs in Notion or Anki. Use a practical system for organizing scattered study material, with one capture rule that still works on a busy day and a scheduled pass for turning important material into notes or cards.
